Protein Bar Haul

If you follow me on Instagram, it’s no secret that I’m slightly obsessed with protein bars. And if you don’t follow me on Instagram, you should. Just kidding. But not really.

Anyway, I find protein bars super convenient. Don’t know what to have for lunch? Protein bar. Gonna be out all day and wanna make sure you don’t grab something unhealthy? Protein bar. Life falling apart? Protein bar.

I recently went to GNC and bought ALL of the protein bars. They had buy 3 get 1 free so naturally I wanted 5 of them. Always making things difficult.

Buckle your seat belts ‘cuz this is about to be a super long post

Luna Bars:

I have tried many Luna Bar flavors and have loved literally every single one. I have had the chocolate cupcake, honey salted peanut, lemon zest, nutz over chocolate, and s’mores flavors. The texture is kinda like a rice krispie treat, aka awesome. They have 9 grams of sugar, 9 grams of protein, 3 grams of soluble fiber and 1 gram of insoluble fiber. The more fiber something has, the slower your process the sugar, so I don’t mind the 9 grams. I do wish the ingredient list was a little shorter, but they are still much better for you than most bars. Plus, you can find them almost anywhere, so they’re a good emergency bar when you’re out.

NuGo Bars:

I haven’t liked all of the NuGo bars I’ve tried. I found the NuGo Slim very dry and they just did not appeal to me at all, but I seem to be the only person I know who felt that way. I tried those in chocolate raspberry and peanut butter. I do like the others that I’ve tried (Vanilla Yogurt and NuGo Dark Chocolate Chocolate Chip). They are similar in consistency to rice krispie treats, like Luna Bars. Definitely not my favorite bar I’ve tried, but good to have around.

Summary of my full review: Yes to these bars. Very yes.

Combat Crunch:

I tried this one in birthday cake. I wasn’t overly impressed compared to the FitElite and FitCrunch Birthday Cake. The texture is nice: chewy with a white chocolate coating and weird round sprinkles. The taste was a little bit lemony, which sounds like it would be awesome but it was just okay. I wouldn’t recommend these over the Fit Bars. But, if those didn’t exist, I would probably have a better rating for these.

GNC Oatmeal Protein Bar Deluxe:

I tried the glazed cinnamon roll first and was in cinnamon bun heaven. I don’t usually think cinnamon roll flavored things actually taste like cinnamon rolls if they’re not gooey. Does that make sense? They tend to taste more like snickerdoodles to me. But these. THESE. They taste exactly like a cinnamon bun. The texture is like a smooth oatmeal cookie dough. You can totally taste the oatmeal, but it’s like cookie dough in texture. LOOK AT THAT CHEWINESS.

I went back for more but they only had caramel peanut butter, which was pretty good. The chocolate brownie is delicious, too!

Fit Crunch:

The birthday cake flavor was the first I tried and I was super impressed. It was the only I could find at first since my GNC seems to sell out of all of the amazing flavors of everything before I get there -_- The outside kinda crumbles off since its a white chocolate coating, but it is so worth the mess. The inside is gooey and chewy and so very yes. Also, sprinkles & pink drizzle make everything better so my day was just completely made by this one. I put it on top of a Sweet Note Bagel (link to my review of those) and made protein cake batter spread to go with it. I suggest doing that. It was amazing.

The second flavor I tried was cookie dough. I think I will buy anything cake batter or cookie dough flavored. Again, the texture was awesome sauce. It doesn’t have a nauseatingly cookie dough taste, but it is definitely cookie dough-ish.

I also tried the cookies and cream flavor. That one was super good. It had a layer of what tasted like cookies and cream flavored cookie dough. I love that these bars are dipped in chocolate and that they are both crunchy and super chewy.

UPDATE: I tried the peanut butter flavor. SO yum. It wasn’t too peanut buttery and it was perfect with the chocolate. Again, it was super crumbly and messy but totally worth the struggle.

I like these so much I bought 36 of them 🙂 🙂

Fit Elite:

I was so excited to try the cake batter Fit Elite bar that I ate it before I even left the mall. I knew it was gonna be amazing, since the Fit Crunch bar was, and I’m more of a fan of chewy than crunchy. It was literally like eating a thick chewy glob of cake batter. I think I shed a few tears. I wanted to go back and get more but how embarrassing would that be. “Hi yeah I ate my bar before I even left so can I have like 875,000 more???” I didn’t even get to snap a pic, so I’ll be sure to share one when I get more. The only tiny problem I had was that it had nonpareils and not sprinkles. Nonpareils are probably the reason for all of the world’s problems. They are little crunchy nuggets of sadness. Just be sprinkles.

I also tried the cookies and cream, which was delicious, but not nearly as amazing. It had large chunks of “Oreos” so that was awesome. But I totally prefer the cake batter. For obvious reasons.

Cookie dough was the last flavor I tried. I was a little disappointed that it didn’t taste like the fit crunch cookie dough. It was definitely good, but I still prefer the fit crunch.

*I will update this post as I try more flavors of these brands  🙂
